“With read-only access, ClearDATA is able to view and alert us to any suspicious activity, empowering our internal team to take the reins across cloud operations and management – all within our budget.”
When one ClearDATA customer – a large hospital system – first came to us, they were managing data across multiple cloud instances. For their electronic health record (EHR) data, they had questions and concerns about potential cyber threats and ransomware. They knew that AWS was at the forefront of handling and protecting EHR data and that it was capable of handling large workloads.
To safely manage their EHR data, and while looking at their resources and in-house team, they wanted to ensure the appropriate bandwidth to manage both the data and their cloud infrastructure. They came to ClearDATA to both reduce risks of attacks and vulnerabilities that threatened their EHR data, but also to cost-effectively extend their staff.
“We didn’t need a full suite of services,” says a leader at the hospital system. “We did need more support and eyes on our data. So, we sought out a cost-effective, dedicated read-only environment, built by AWS healthcare cloud experts, to help us make and maintain a backup of our EHR data in Epic. That’s where ClearDATA came in.”
Read-only was a new use case for ClearDATA – we are typically “all in” and very hands-on for our customers. Still, we knew that this read-only backup instance was critically important for the hospital system and would help them better protect EHR data without breaking their budget. We also knew our healthcare cloud team, equipped with AWS expertise, was well-suited to tailor this solution to their needs. Leveraging our professional services, ClearDATA built the AWS backup environment they asked for according to their specifications.
“ClearDATA helped us offload reporting and analytics to this new read-only cloud backup environment,” says the hospital system leader. “With read-only access, ClearDATA is able to view and alert us to any suspicious activity, empowering our internal team to take the reins across cloud operations and management – all within our budget.”
With this read-only instance, the customer has the assurance of a full backup of their EHR data within AWS, significantly reducing risks to their cloud infrastructure while providing continuous compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
