We recently sat down with Jeff Cowan, Vice President of Technology at MedNet Solutions, to learn more about iMedNet’s new, industry-leading cloud hosting environment. The following is a summary of our question and answer session with Jeff:
Why is MedNet now offering iMedNet as a truly cloud-based eClinical solution?
Great question. Moving to a truly cloud-based solution allows us to provide a more highly available and redundant eClinical/EDC (Electronic Data Capture) solution, and provides a higher level of security and compliance. This move also allows us to continue to grow and improve in terms of what we can offer our medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and contract research organization (CRO) customers – which is always good.
Who are MedNet’s eClinical cloud delivery technology partners?
Our main eClinical cloud partner is ClearDATA, a best-in class healthcare exclusive security and infrastructure company. ClearDATA is a HITRUST certified solution provider (which helps ensure compliance with many industry standards, including HIPAA, HITECH, and numerous ISO standards just to name a few). They are the ideal partner to assist MedNet in providing the highest level of eClinical service possible for our customers in the life sciences sector. They are the largest healthcare-dedicated cloud service provider available today.
MedNet also leverages the immense, highly reliable and redundant processing power of Amazon Web Services (AWS). ClearDATA applies HITRUST certified processes and controls to secure the AWS infrastructure, ensuring that it is safe and secure for our iMedNet eClinical application and, even more importantly, for our customers’ clinical research data.
Why did MedNet select these specific partners?
We selected ClearDATA because they offer a fully compliant healthcare cloud infrastructure; support the latest security technologies and practices; offer HIPAA-compliant storage, backup, data privacy, and security; and utilize an industry-leading infrastructure foundation company like AWS. ClearDATA worked with us to design an eClinical environment that meets our needs and developed automation to ensure the environment is built to adhere to HIPAA regulations.
What are the key benefits realized by MedNet’s life sciences customers?
There are a number of benefits for our many life sciences customers, who are conducting vital clinical trials and registries around the world. The cloud allows us to run our clinical research software solutions on a robust, high availability infrastructure which is HITRUST certified. It gives us the flexibility to scale our application as the needs of our customers continue to grow, and allows us to focus our internal MedNet resources on supporting and improving our iMedNet eClinical solution. This also opens the door for us to provide regionally-based eClinical cloud services in Europe and beyond.
