Phoenix, AZ, May 20, 2014 – HealthUnity, a leading health information technology company dedicated to secure, privacy-protected health information acquisition, integration, exchange and analysis, and ClearDATA, a leading healthcare cloud computing platform and HIPAA-compliant hosting service provider, have joined forces to successfully complete the implementation of secure Direct Messaging capabilities with Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture (CCD-A) transfer for one of the largest hospital systems in the nation.

The hospital system is a multi-state network, including hospitals, urgent and occupational care, imaging centers, home health and primary care clinics. It utilizes a variety of electronic health record (EHR) systems in its inpatient and ambulatory settings. Though one of the hospital system’s EHR systems includes built-in Direct Messaging support, its other systems had various disjointed approaches that were not suited to the its needs. To address this issue and strive to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements related to using The Direct Project for Transfer of Care (ToC) scenarios, the hospital system decided to deploy a “best-of-breed” solution for one of its regional hospitals and ambulatory providers.

By utilizing the HealthUnity Direct solution implemented through ClearDATA cloud hosting services, the hospital system is now able to exchange CCD-A documents in a production environment between its various providers. According to Prem Urali, President and CEO of HealthUnity, “We are very excited to team up with ClearDATA to deliver this solution in under 45 days to help this hospital system meet a critical Meaningful Use requirement in a cost effective way. Our comprehensive Direct Messaging solution includes the highly popular Microsoft Outlook Web interface, mailboxes and Direct gateway services. Our solution has reduced training time and support issues while simultaneously gaining acceptance from the end users.”

HealthUnity Direct Messaging is an EHNAC-DirectTrust accreditation candidate and a participant in the DirectTrust anchor bundle solution. Implemented in under 45 days, the solution has allowed the hospital system’s providers to stay on schedule for its Stage 2 Meaningful Use attestation. Built around Microsoft Exchange and Outlook Web Access, HealthUnity Direct is fully managed by HealthUnity and hosted by ClearDATA at a HIPAA compliant data center.

“We are glad to have played such an integral role in allowing this hospital system to take a big step toward achieving Stage 2 Meaningful Use,” remarked Darin Brannan, president of ClearDATA “We were able to use our expertise in healthcare cloud computing to help tailor an affordable and scalable solution for the hospital system’s Direct Messaging needs.”
